NPHIL ACTIVATES SURVEILLANCE AMID SUSPECTED HAEMORRHAGIC FEVER CASE IN SIERRA LEONE

(MONROVIA, DECEMBER 8, 2024):

In response to a suspected case and related death from Viral Haemorrhagic Fever in neighboring Sierra Leone, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has activated and strengthened surveillance efforts across the country. This includes enhancing port health and epidemiological monitoring at key border crossing points, particularly in the Northwest.

Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, Director-General of NPHIL, has engaged in discussions with Dr. Foday Sahr, Executive Director of the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) of Sierra Leone, to ensure a coordinated response and collaborative approach aimed at preventing any potential outbreak in the region.

The public is urged to remain calm and adhere to basic infection control measures, including:

  • Frequent handwashing with soap and water,
  • Avoiding direct contact with individuals who exhibit symptoms of illness,
  • Reporting any suspected cases to the nearest health facility for prompt action.
